Opened 1st Brick & Mortar Location
On Oct. 31, 1992, Clay opened his first brick and mortar store at 335 SW Jackson St. and hired his first employee. In 1994, he moved the retail operation to 6th and Topeka Blvd., and has operated there for more than 20 years.
Throughout the years, business continued to thrive and Clay was able to purchase the property, as well as two other local swimming pool companies in the area in 2001 and 2007, expanding Swims & Sweeps to three locations throughout Kansas. In 2014, business came full circle, and Clay opened his fourth retail location back in Manhattan.
Clay doesn’t take all the credit to his success. His mom Ester has been by his side for the last 23 years, and with her help and encouragement, he’s been able to grow the company to what it is now. He has also relied on the help of a good bank, Kaw Valley Bank, Craig Heidemann, Lori Dutton, his CPA, and advice from a good friend, Mike Meyers at Core First Bank.
